My last trip to South Padre Island ended up in a broken 8 wt rod. I mashed off a couple of guides because I couldn’t get the sections apart.
Since I’m going to Canada in a couple of weeks, I really wanted to bring that rod instead of using the guide provided one. I just happened to be in Dallas last week and the maker of the rod, Temple Fork Outfitters, is in Dallas. AND their office/warehouse was 10 minutes from the hotel I was staying at. So, I stopped by there and they give me a new section, no questions asked. That’s great service that will keep me buying more rods from them. Thanks TFO.
The excellent Midcurrent blog has a link to the FFR 5 minute film winner from Felt Soul Media. I’m not big on documentary films but this one looks fantastic. Take a look at the trailer at the bottom of the post. It looks very well done with some beautiful photography. Love the music in it too

I have a fly fishing trip planned. It’s a doozy. I’m going to British Columbia for 5 days and get to fish for 2 full guided days! I’m beyond excited about it. I believe I’ll be fishing for pinks and maybe some Koho. I’ve never fished for salmon before so I’m thrilled. My guide also wants me to do some Spey fishing which I have mixed feelings about. I’m not sure I want to spend half a day (or more) trying to become proficient enough to cast with a new method. Yes, it’s nice to try new things, but geez, I just don’t get a lot of opportunities to do real fly fishing.
The guide, Ken Moreau of Single Spey Fly-Fishing Adventures – http://www.bcflyguide.com/index.html, sent me some recommendations for flies to tie. I was kind of hoping they would be some exotic beautiful salmon flies that I only get to see in books, but instead the guidance was to tie wooly buggers!! So, nothing too fun.
More info and definitely lots of pictures to come….
