Hardy or Not, that is the question

Evil Craigslist strikes again. My wife sent me a link on Craigslist for a Hardy Brothers bamboo fly rod. The price was very right so I was thinking maybe it would be worth buying another rod I don’t need.

Needless to say, I bought it.

There are no markings on the 10.4 ft ish rod so I’m really just trusting the guy. It has a Hardy Brothers rod sock, but that doesn’t exactly verify the rod maker.

So, here are some pics. Let me know whether I bought another rod that is too heavy to use or actually got a Hardy rod. Thanks!!

  1. I don't think it's a Hardy. From the reel seat and winding check (metal piece in front of grip) it looks like a Horrocks Ibbotson rod. But I am not a expert by any means. I bought a rod similar a couple years ago to restore. It too did not have any markings but looks very similar many HI rods.

    1. Thanks! I’ll investigate Horrocks Ibbotson rods. I haven’t seen any Horrocks Ibbotson rods in the length I have as someone else told me it was likely a salmon rod. I’ll keep checking though. Thanks for the lead.
